New York Jail Inmate Search

New York City's Department of Correction provides multiple methods to locate inmates held in city jails. These methods allow you to search for an inmate using their name, date of birth, or Department of Correction ID number.

1. Navigate to the Department of Correction Website:

   • Begin by visiting the official website of New York City's Department of Correction.
   • On the homepage, locate and click on the "Inmate Lookup" tab.

2. Select a Search Method:

   • You can select from three search options: "Search by Name," "Search by Date of Birth," or "Search by Department of Correction ID Number."
     • Search by Name: Enter the inmate's first and last name in the provided fields. If you have information regarding their middle name or alias, use the additional fields to include that information. Select the borough where they are likely to be held to narrow down the search results. Ensure that you select the correct borough, as the system is specific to each borough's jail system.
     • Search by Date of Birth: Input the inmate's date of birth in the "Date of Birth" field. Once again, select the appropriate borough to focus your search.
     • Search by Department of Correction ID Number: If you know the inmate's Department of Correction ID number, enter it in the designated field and choose the relevant borough.

3. Execute Search:

   • Once you've selected your preferred search method and filled in the necessary information, click the "Search" button.

4. Review Results:

   • The search results will display a list of inmates matching your search criteria. The list will include the inmate's name, Department of Correction ID number, and housing location.
   • If you cannot find an inmate in the initial search results, try using a different search method or varying the search parameters.

5. Access Additional Information (Jail Roster):

   • To obtain further details about an inmate, click on their name in the search results.
   • This will open a new page displaying the inmate's current housing location, their booking information, any pending court cases, and prior arrests.
